Upcoming K-W POMBA Events 2008:
*NEW* Monthly Meetings:Monthly meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. excluding January, July, and August. Topics range from car seat safety, learning and schooling for multiples, growing up as a twin or triplet, general meet and greet, to fun topics like scrap booking. Effective September 2008, all general meetings will be hosted in the homes of various members. The purpose of this is to make the meetings more relaxed and social not to mention a little less intimidating to attend. It will allow more flexibility for any members that just can’t make a meeting by 7:30 pm. Obviously, this is a big change and we hope that everyone will work with us by letting us know what is working and what isn’t working so that we can fine tune the meetings to be about what you need or want out of them. The fall meetings will be held as follows: Tuesday October 21st
Wednesday November 19th
*NEW* Pumpkin Patch DayOur Annual Pumpkin Patch Day will be hosted once again at Shantzholm on Saturday October 4, 2008 starting at 9.30 am. Shantzholm is located at 1544 Bleams Rd., RR #2 Petersburg, Ontario N0B 2H0 519-634-5252. We will be enjoying a wonderful autumn day, filled with a hay ride, visiting with farm animals, children's activities, as well as touring the pumpkin patch! Please RSVP to Kathleen Raum Cook at gocooksgo@yahoo.ca or Jen Carson at jen.carson@sympatico.ca. Also, if you have any ideas or suggestions for upcoming social activities, please contact Kathleen or Jen! *NEW* KidZone Christmas PartyWe are confirmed for Saturday December 6th from 10.00-12.00 at KidZone for our POMBA Christmas Party. So mark you calendars and hopefully the weather will cooperate this year ! Again please rsvp to Kathleen Raum Cook at gocooksgo@yahoo.ca
*NEW* Cambridge Playgroup:The Cambridge Playgroup will be meeting the first Thursday of every
month (starting in October) from 6-7:30pm during Family Playtime at the
Cambridge Early Years Centre on Ainslie Street in Cambridge. For more
*NEW* Saturday Play Dates:Starting Saturday - June 14th! We will meet at the FENCED in playground attached to the building of KIDSABILITY. This playground is wheelchair accessible, has a rubberized ground surface, has lots of space for strollers, has a couple of shade trees, 2 baby swings and everything else a playground should have.and did I mention it is FENCED IN - CONTAINED -- SAFE FOR MY TWIN TODDLERS!!! I love this playground! KidsAbility is closed on the weekends. Their playground is open to the community (as community members donated towards it) as long as it is not being used by the clients. If it's terribly rainy or stormy, we likely won't be there..We will meet around 10 am and stay until ??? - bring a snack or lunch if you like as well as a blanket - I don't think there are picnic tables. Directions - 500 Hallmark Drive is the official address but you will see the building on Davenport Road between the Zehrs at Conestoga Mall and Lexington. KidsAbility is on the opposite side of Davenport road that the Conestoga mall is on - - -better yet, just google it if you are not
confused! The playground is attached to one actual side of the KidsAbility building toward the end of the building that is closer to Lexington. Parking - will be a little tricky as the KidsAbility parking lot is typically closed off during the weekends. For now, I am going to park along Hallmark or Barwick (off of Hallmark) and then bring my girls in their stroller through the empty parking lot to the playground area - it's not TOO long of a walk.
Expectant Parents Meeting:The next Expectant Parents is December 9th in the Gold Room at the Kaufman Building of Grand River Hospital from 7 - 9 p.m. There is no cost to attend and you do not have to be a member of K-W POMBA. The meeting will include presentations by Peer Health Workers and the Special Care Nursery staff, a new mother of multiples, and information about labor and postpartum support. A tour of the special care nursery will be included. There will be no child care provided for this meeting. The meetings are an opportunity for families expecting multiples to receive support, ask questions, learn about our organization, and obtain information about multiple pregnancy and life with multiples. You must pre-register, either by sending an email or by calling our Peer Health Worker: Jenna Aylott at 519-696-3792. Also see Peer Health for more information. Upcoming K-W POMBA Events 2009:Used Clothing and Equipment Sale:The Spring Sale will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Moses Springer Community Centre, Waterloo. Refer to the Clothing Sale page for all the details and for information about volunteering at the sale. Summer Picnic:July 12, 2009 at Kiwanis Park - more details to comeNew Orleans Pizza Fundraiser for KW-POMBA:Occasionally we have pizza fundraisers with New Orleans Pizza. On certain days, half of the money you spend at New Orleans Pizza will be donated back to KW-POMBA. This is good for pick up or delivery at any of their 5 area locations. Check out their web site at www.neworleanspizza.ca or call 519-888-8888 in Waterloo, Kitchener, or Cambridge. Watch this site or check your newsletter for upcoming fundraiser dates.
Volunteer Board:We have a handful of positions open and are looking for some fresh faces to get involved in the running of our local chapter. If you are thinking that you would like to become more involved or would like to connect with other parents of multiples, why not take a look at the positions and volunteer for one? Volunteers are vital to the running of our club so get involved and form some new friendships. The following positions are
currently available: Publicity Coordinator, and Fundraising Coordinator. We
are introducing something new this year also as an added incentive to
join the team. If you volunteer in your position and commit to the time
required to doing it effectively, the following year your membership will
be free. Another bonus of volunteering on the committee is that you are
entitled to shop at the sale after set up Friday night for a half hour.
Feel free to contact Jenna
Korczynski or Judy Smale with any questions.
