Peer
Health Workers:
Two Peer Health workers
are available to aid parents of multiples by providing information, support,
and guidance both during pregnancy and after the babies' arrival. Peer
Health Workers are trained by the Community Health Department of the Region
of Waterloo.
Peer Health Workers are an
important resource for parents expecting multiples as they provide support
and guidance through telephone contact and in-home visits during and after
pregnancy. They also set up and conduct Expectant Parent Meetings, deliver
and mail expectant parent packages, and have access to equipment for loan
or rental (example: triple strollers and breastfeeding pillows).
If you are expecting multiples,
you are invited to contact one of our Peer Health Workers, Jenna
Aylott at 519-696-3792 or Michelle
Van Dijk at 519-656-3080 to help you prepare for your new additions.
Expectant
Parents Meetings:
Peer Health Workers set
up and conduct Expectant Parents Meetings for parents in the Kitchener-Waterloo
area who are expecting multiples. There is no cost to attend and you do
not have to be a member of K-W POMBA. The meetings generally consist of
presentations by Peer Health Workers, CradleLink and the Special Care
Nursery staff, a new mother of multiples,
and information about labor and postpartum
support. The meetings are an opportunity for families expecting multiples
to receive support, ask questions, learn about our organization, and obtain
information about multiple pregnancy and life with multiples.
The next Expectant
Parents Meeting is September 16th in the Gold
Room of the Kaufman Building at Grand River Hospital from 7 - 9 p.m.
A tour of the special care nursery will be included. There will be no
child care provided for this meeting.
Pre-registration is required, either
by sending an email or by calling one of our Peer Health Workers: Jenna
Aylott at 519-696-3792 or Michelle
Van Dijk at 519-656-3080.
