National Multiple Births Awareness Day - May 28th

May 28, 2009 National Multiple Births Awareness Day

2009 Theme:
"Classroom Placement of Multiples - together or not?"

The MBC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that with the support of members and volunteers who provided input on possible themes for National Multiple Births Awareness Day, the 2009 theme is “Classroom Placement for Multiples – together or not?” Multiple Births Canada recommends that parents and school administrators work together to make classroom placement decisions, considering the needs of each child individually.

Can you help MBC get this information about the needs of multiple-birth children to the school decision-makers in your area? The goal is to contact decision makers and stakeholders on three levels - local, provincial and national. Locally, we need one volunteer from each Chapter or county/region to make contact with your area school boards and media. MBC will provide the volunteer with the documents, and mentor him/her on the delivery of information. Provincially, we need one volunteer from each province to make contact with the Minister of Education and other stakeholders in your province. Again, MBC will provide this volunteer with the documents, and mentor him/her on the delivery of information. Nationally, MBC’s Director of Communications, Gail Moore, will make the appropriate contacts, however if there are volunteers willing to work with her, any help would also be appreciated. To indicate your interest (at any level) in being part of the National Multiple Births Awareness Day 2009 Committee, please contact us as soon as possible by email at

communications@multiplebirthscanada.org.

Building upon printed resources produced by MBC to assist parents and educators with this annual decision, this year’s National Multiple Births Awareness Day media and awareness kit will once again be posted online and accessible for download by mid-May. A Community Celebration planner and a t-shirt/cake template are currently available below.

Once Chapters have confirmed their celebration plans, please let the Business Office at office@multiplebirthscanada.org know so we can help spread the word of your plans on the MBC website. Although May 28th is the official date of National Multiple Births Awareness Day, if Chapters wish to celebrate the event on the weekend before or after, they are encouraged to do so.

Multiple Births Canada will contact national media directly; however it is equally important that MBC members, Chapters and non-affiliate groups do their part to connect with media in their local communities.  To assist Canada’s multiple-birth community in reaching all journalists with this year’s key messages, MBC encourages the distribution of the following documents (Media Kit):
