1.       New Chapter Outreach Committee Formed -- At the Fall 2005 Interim Meeting, the Board of Directors identified that 2006 will be a year to build the membership of MBC.  With the vision of establishing chapter affiliates in all major Canadian cities in the near future, whether new or having non-member groups return to MBC, a new committee is being formed to determine a strategy on how to grow MBC nationally.  The committee’s first mandate will be to consider and recommend to the Board a plan to aid existing non-member groups who are considering a return to MBC or becoming an MBC Affiliate Chapter in 2006.

This committee will include one or two members of the board of directors as well as five or six passionate MBC member volunteers.  Due to the vastness of our organization and the difficulty in working as a committee electronically, we are suggesting that the committee remain small enough to allow for ease of communication.  As such, we may have to turn away interested volunteers and in order to do so fairly, we are requesting that you provide a bit of background on your experiences as a member of an MBC Chapter, along with your reasons why you feel you would be an asset to this committee.  If the response to this request attracts an excess of volunteers we will make every attempt to match your interests to another newly forming national committee.

Expressions of interest will be accepted by email to Kim at volunteers@multiplebirthscanada.org until January 31st.

As always, we are interested in any feedback from the membership.  If you have any suggestions on ways to entice non-member groups, or to establish chapters in areas without them today, we would love to hear from you as soon as possible.  Please email any ideas to  communications@multiplebirthscanada.org..

2.       New Fact Sheets Released – MBC is delighted to announce the addition of 2 new Fact Sheets to our ever-growing list of important topics.  Members:  Remember you can download these fact sheets for free from the member’s only section of the MBC website.

Breastfeeding Premature Multiples
-  “Can I do it?”  “How do I do it?”  “What do I need?”  Answers to these questions and more are available in the MBC comprehensive Breastfeeding Multiples resource collection.  MBC encourages you to regularly check our vast array of resources to access information on timely topics.

Used Car Seats
-
. Multiple birth families not only require multiple car seats (one for each child) but some families require extra car seats for second vehicles or their caregiver’s vehicle.  Buying second hand is an economical choice but there are other issues to consider.  This fact sheet will provide you with hints to consider before you either purchase or borrow used car seats.

3.       Translation of MBC Resources - Can YOU or your CHAPTER make a difference? You bet! Read on....
Over the years, MBC has set its sights on translating as many of its resources as possible so that Canadian Francophone families can benefit from the vast array of multiple-birth literature. Many dedicated and talented volunteers have either translated booklets, fact sheets and pamphlets themselves or sponsored these translations on behalf of their own Chapter Francophone families. Without such Chapter and volunteer support and commitment, MBC would not have been able to provide resources for Francophone families.

The challenge continues and MBC is committed to translating even more resources so that Francophone multiple-birth families can continue to locate and rely on support resources in the language of their choice. With this in mind, we are hoping that you might assist us in reaching our goal.

We are looking for individuals, groups of individuals, families or Chapters who have an excellent working knowledge of French/English and who would be willing to take on the rewarding challenge of:

1) Translating one, two or more MBC Fact Sheets or other MBC resources or
2) Sponsor the cost of hiring a professional translator to translate an MBC resource or

3) Assist with the costs of printing the item once translated.

If you have excellent translation skills, previous translation experience, this could be the job for you; or if your Chapter would like to sponsor a translation, please let us know at mbcvolunteers@multiplebirthscanada.org

Remember, your volunteer services are an important part of your résumé and you are ensuring that Canadian Francophone multiple-birth families receive the support they need.

4.   Welcome New Multiple Moments Design/Layout Editor

You may have read or heard over the last few months that the MBC Board of Directors were discussing a change in format for Multiple Moments.  There are several reasons for this decision.  First, the publication will now be 20 pages plus cover which will cut down a bit on the cost of printing.  Second, we are cutting down on the length of the articles thus making the stories an easier, quicker read for our busy readership while trying to include more articles by using more space on the page in the new format.

We are excited to welcome Alison Pilz from Kitchener-Waterloo POMBA to the Multiple Moments Team!! Alison is designing the new format and will be doing the layout for each issue.  Alison volunteers as the newsletter editor for K-W POMBA and has her own graphic design business Appilz Seed Design in Waterloo, Ontario.  Welcome Alison!

Vicki Riley will continue to be the Production Editor and Meredith Fraser-Ohman the Co-Editor and both will work with Alison on each issue. As always, we are looking for personal stories and chapter-related articles to include within Multiple Moments. If you are interested in submitting an article (under 1000 words), please contact Vicki at mmeditor@multiplebirthscanada.org.
