Back to Basics Volunteer Development Retreat
The “Early-Bird”
Registration deadline is almost here!
To take advantage of the Early-Bird rate, be sure to have your
registration and payment in the mail and postmarked by March 1st!!!
“Back to
Basics” takes place May 27-29, 2005 - the registration form is now posted on
the website. It’s time to get excited
about a well-deserved weekend away full of good times, teambuilding, improving
volunteer skills and memory-making - http://www.multiplebirthscanada.org/english/Conference0506.php.
MBC volunteers
are very excited about moving forward with this event and encourage all
chapters to try to send at least 2 volunteers from their chapter. The intent of this weekend is to
provide a complete programme of workshops for chapter enrichment including such
topics as Train the Trainer, Transferring Training to your Chapter, PR and
Community Awareness, Managing your Chapter, Growing your programs to meet the
needs of your members.
Keeping with
the theme of “Back to Basics” -- the Board of Directors selected a location
that would allow for strong networking opportunities in a relaxing and peaceful
environment. The added bonus is
that it’s just 20 minutes from where the Dionne Quintuplets were born, which is
also essential to our celebration of the 1st
Annual National Multiple Births Awareness Day (more information to follow
in a few days). You’ll be amazed
by the facilities at our retreat! The Canadian Ecology Centre at Samuel
de Champlain Provincial Park, just east of Mattawa, Ontario is true luxury amid
nature’s best.
Come Celebrate our 1st Annual National Multiple
Births Awareness Day with us on May 28th, 2005 in North Bay and
don’t forget to plan an event for May 28th in your community!
2. Making A Difference Awards
Another deadline is approaching as well -
March 30th is just a month or so away!!
There are so many amazing people out
there who give their time and energy to supporting others. Please take a moment to recognize some
of these amazing people through the MADA Awards. This award is presented at the MBC Conference (Back to
Basics Volunteer Development Retreat for 2005) but you do not need to
attend to nominate or receive this award.
This is a wonderful opportunity to nominate someone who has made
contributions to the improvement of multiple birth families locally, nationally
and internationally. Is your local
chapter a success due to the tireless work of one particular person? Is there someone at the national level
whose commitment is "second to none?” Are you aware of someone at the international level who
helps to ensure the professionalism of Multiple Births Canada?
We know that there are many members
deserving of this award so go ahead... nominate someone!!
To see the latest MADA brochure and
Nomination Form click here or view the Multiple
Births Canada website at www.multiplebirthscanada.org -
select Volunteering then Volunteer Recognition.
Please submit your nomination for
consideration by March 30, 2005. Your submissions can be sent by email to makingadifference@multiplebirthscanada.org,
by fax at (705) 429-9809 or by mail at Making a Difference, Attention: Chairperson, 28 Tom Edwards Drive, Whitby, Ontario,
L1R 2R4. Should you have any questions, please email Katherine Romain at the
above e-mail address.
Remember without volunteers, our local
chapters, as well as the National Organization, would never be able to touch as
many lives as we do. Let's recognize
those people that "Make
a Difference!"
Attention Chapter Newsletter Editors!
NEWSLETTER CONTENT: Please publicize this award in your
Newsletters so that everyone who is a member has the opportunity to nominate
someone special. Please feel free
to copy the brochure off the website and include it in your newsletter as
well. Please also indicate that
nominations can be made online.
We look forward to hearing from you.

4. TV Documentary Looking for Teenage or
Adult Multiples or Parents of…
ABC / Channel 4 Documentary: Twins And Multiples
Are You A Teenage Or Adult Triplet, Quadruplet, Quintuplet
Or Sextuplet? Or, Are You The Parent Of Teenage Or Adult Multiples?
ABC Network in the US is making a documentary series for TV on multiples in conjunction with Channel 4 Television and Monkey TV in the UK.
The series take a serious and responsible look at the subjects of identity and closeness for triplets and higher multiples.
We are working with the key professionals in the field: Jane Denton of The Multiple Births Foundation in the UK, Helen Forbes of TAMBA and many more. We have a number of experts consulting on the series including Elizabeth Bryan (author of Twins, Triplets and More: Their Nature, Development and Care) and Audrey Sandbank (author of Twin and Triplet Psychology).
Penny Hughes, who is researching the project, would be delighted to hear from UK, Canada or US-based twins, triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets or sextuplets. She would also like to talk to the parents of teenage / adult multiples.
Please contact Penny Hughes at Monkey TV on 00 44 207 749 3183 for an informal chat about your experiences. Or you can email her - pennyh@monkeykingdom.com - Many thanks. We hope to hear from you soon.
