Monthly
Activity Report
Wasaga Beach,
ON: Multiple Births Canada (MBC)
is pleased to provide ongoing updates to its members, chapters and
colleagues. Your commitment to Supporting Multiple Births Together is of
great importance to Canada’s multiple-birth community.
Chapter
Representatives: Please forward the information below to
your Chapter Executive and members.
This Monthly Activity Report is designed to inform MBC members on
the work being performed by the Board of Directors on behalf of all
multiple-births individuals, families and supporters in Canada. Our brief review of March 2005 does not
include the many activities coordinated in the business office by our Business
Services Manager; however, much of the work listed below is done as a team with
her valued input and assistance.
- Focused on building relationships with our chapters. Telephoned 20 chapters for a
30-minute survey/conversation about the relationship between MBC & the
chapter. About 2/3 of the chapters were reached and many valuable comments
were shared. Followed up on several chapter conversations with email and
discussion with the board.
- Began discussions with non-member chapters about how we can
work together to support multiple-birth families and celebrate the first
annual National Multiple Births Awareness Day.
- Finalized partnership presentation with CAPPA Canada for a
presentation given by Dr. Harvey Karp in April in Toronto.
- Received a request from a group of families wishing to create
a new chapter in the Toronto area and have begun work on its
formation.
- Sent letters to key supporters of Ontario Best Start program,
offering to be involved and contribute to future planning of the program,
so that it includes a multiple-birth perspective. Responses were well received, and
have presented the possibility of a face-to-face meeting with the Minister of Children and Youth Services.
- Attended regular business meetings on alternate Sunday
evenings.
- Continued negotiating with a potential corporate funding
partner.
National Multiple Births Awareness Day:
- Continued working on the media kit for National Multiple
Births Awareness Day. This
will be part of the Event Planner Package described in the April 6th IC-BO-04-06-05-#1 - Time Sensitive Response Needed - re
National Multiple Births Awareness Day
- Ran a pre-test of the Multiple-Births Challenge in South
Temiskaming. The first
newspaper article supporting this initiative is attached.
- Made contact with the Federal Government to have the National
Multiple Birth Awareness Day recognized as an official “day” in Canada and
listed as such on their communications website-still waiting on replies
from them.
- Completed drafts of letters of invitation to federal
government officials. They are currently with the MBC Board for review
before being issued.
Volunteer Retreat:
- Attended bi-weekly organizational meetings for Back to Basics
via MSN.
- Continued working on the programming and logistics of Back to
Basics.
- Continued registering delegates for Back to Basics – we’re
over 50 now!
- Sent out approximately 30 national fundraising/sponsorship
requests requesting donations for Back to Basics and encouraging
sponsorship of MBC activities including more discounts for our members.
- Received many donations for prizing and the silent auction at
Back to Basics! (Books, food, clothes, you’ll be in for lots of surprises
if you’re coming to Mattawa!)
- Received donations of literature for Volunteers/Chapters (If
you attend Back to Basics you’re going to go home with great information
on fundraising, volunteering, etc)
- Planned an April face-to-face meeting of the Board to
finalize all planning and programming elements of National Multiple Births
Awareness Day, Back to Basics, the Annual General Meeting, and the Annual
Report. Scheduled to take place April 15-17, 2005.
- Handled all MBC correspondence.
We don’t want to spoil the excitement for our
April report, but we’ve got lots more exciting news, including money for MBC,
high profile figures attending the North Bay lead event for National Multiple
Births Awareness Day, and international work being done by our Advisory Board
in preparation for our media blitz on May 28th. Stay tuned for details!!!
