Wasaga Beach,
ON: Multiple Births Canada (MBC)
is pleased to provide ongoing updates to its members, chapters and
colleagues. Your commitment to Supporting Multiple Births Together is of
great importance to Canada’s multiple-birth community.
Chapter
Representatives: Please forward the information below to
your Chapter Executive and members.
If you haven’t
signed up for ‘Back to
Basics’ yet, please read on.
If you have signed up and you’re curious to know what you’re
going to be doing, please read on!
One of the main
attractions is that you’ll have an opportunity to be a part of history in the
making! As we dot the “i's” and
cross the “t’s” on National Multiple Births Awareness Day at the Dionne Quints
Museum it becomes obvious that those who will join us for the celebration are
in for a personal growth experience and a great time! Not only will you get to tour the museum, you’ll witness the
awarding of the first Adult Multiples Making a
Difference Award, which MBC will present to a representative of the Dionne
quintuplets, who have for many years worked to increase awareness of
multiple-birth issues, and to advocate the unique needs of multiple-birth
individuals to the public and to government alike.
Your presence
will also help deliver our key message regarding current Employment Insurance
benefits: “A call to dialogue on parental benefits and
compassionate leave benefits for multiple-births families.” Because there is power in numbers, your
attendance will make a difference!
As for the
other main attractions, this will be a weekend where you get to do something
other than just being a responsible and hard-working adult! Here’s a quick overview:
·
Team
building activities including the Global Positioning System (GPS) Treasure
Hunt! GPS is the new age satellite
map that helps people navigate all over the world. We’re going to be using it to teach you how to work together
while you’re having fun!
·
Bonding
time including campfire fun, unorganized pyjama party discussions and sharing
information about how we do things within our chapters.
·
Morning
walks and outside activities. Yes,
you’ll get a chance to daydream and enjoy nature at its best (including a
chance to test your night vision!) in the beautiful surroundings of the Canadian Ecology Centre within Samuel de
Champlain Provincial Park just west of Mattawa, Ontario.
·
Opportunities
to actually get some computer time!
We’ve allocated time for you to get online and do some hands-on
learning. Yes, you’ll be able to
check your email – if you need your fix!
·
Oh
yeah, and we’ll be getting ‘Back to Basics’ and giving you LOTS of great
information and ideas that you can bring back home to share with your chapters to
help them grow!
For everyone
who is keeping an eye on the bottom line, here’s GREAT news! The MBC Board voted (at last weekend’s
sequestered 35-hour retreat planning meeting in the woods of the Kawarthas) to keep the early bird
price of $150 per delegate in place until the final registration date of May 15th.
Get
inspired! Get connected! Get the tools you need to develop new
volunteers within your chapter.
Join us at ‘Back to Basics’!!
‘Back to
Basics’ takes place May 27-29, 2005.
