1.  New MBC Chapter in Collingwood, Ontario

Multiple Births Canada is pleased to announce the formation of a new chapter in Collingwood, Ontario!  The Collingwood Twins and More Club has recently formed and registered as an official Chapter of MBC. It is with a great deal of pleasure that we extend a big multiple-birth welcome to our newest member chapter and we look forward to building a strong partnership between national and the chapter members in providing valuable support to the multiple-birth families in this area.

In the spirit of supporting each other in meeting the needs of multiple-birth families everywhere, I would like to inform our new chapters and remind our existing chapters that many resources are available to you and your members.  MBC is always happy to provide information, advice and suggestions to help our chapters provide the best programs they can, in addition to having a number of resources at our fingertips that we can send upon request.  Be sure to make use of these resources, and pass along any helpful suggestions you may have from your own chapter's experience.  It's through working together that multiple-birth families get the best support that can be provided.

Please extend a huge welcome to our newest chapter.  They can be reached as follows:

Congratulations and welcome to Multiple Births Canada!

2.       Good-bye and Thank You to Carrie Johnston

Unfortunately for MBC, our long-time volunteer, past Chair, and Board member, Carrie Johnston has made the very difficult decision to step down from the Board of Directors.  Carrie has given an enormous amount of time and energy to MBC and the former POMBA Canada over the past six years.  She contributed to MBC’s success through her many talents, and has held multiple positions at the national level starting as Editor of Multiple Moments magazine and webmaster, and including various Board of Director positions including three years as President/Chair of Multiple Births Canada.

Carrie has been able to assist MBC move forward all these years while handling a very busy household, a full-time job, a home business, other volunteer commitments and quite often lone parenting because of her husband’s military postings. She will continue in her role as Past-Chair, advising when necessary, continuing to manage MBC’s Policies and Procedures manual, and assisting the Business Office on an as-needed basis with technical information management issues.

On behalf of all MBC members and volunteers, we would like to wish Carrie and her family all the best and hope they enjoy some new found ‘spare time’ together.  Best of luck Carrie and thank you for making a difference!

Note:  Effective immediately, Director-at-Large Jennifer Dawson, has taken on the role of Director of Finance – financial@multiplebirthscanada.org

4.  There’s Still Time to register!!!

There is still time to register for the 2005 Volunteer Retreat!  We have left the prices at the early bird rates and encourage you to find a way to send someone from your chapter if not yourself to attend this year.  As the very first Volunteer Retreat for MBC, this year will be like no other, with the focus being on you the volunteer and the chapter, making the value of spending chapter dollars to send a delegate all that more meaningful.

Is your chapter struggling to keep meetings on track? Do you feel as if your chapter could be more organized? Are you unsure of ways to get the word out into the community that you are there?  Are you struggling with what MBC does for you?  Do you simply want to learn from other successful chapters? Do you need new and innovative ways to raise funds...besides chocolate bar sales and bake tables? Has you chapter struggled to find ways to train your volunteers on how best to serve your membership? Then this is the place to be!  Make the extra effort and you will not be sorry!  You will find yourself surrounded by a number of very knowledgeable and willing to share volunteers, who have worked for many years on behalf of multiple-birth issues.

By attending you will also become part of the national celebrations of the National Multiple Births Awareness Day in North Bay.  What better place to be than at the Dionne Quints Museum in North Bay when celebrating this very special event as MBC opens the dialogue regarding the current provisions for maternity, parental and compassionate care leave under the federal Employment Insurance Program for multiple-birth families.

We are waiting to share the weekend with you!  We want the opportunity to get to know you better and hope that you can make that last minute decision to meet with us in Mattawa.

National Multiple Births Awareness Day is May 28th

Celebrate!!
