colleagues. Your commitment to Supporting Multiple Births Together is of
great importance to Canada’s multiple-birth community.

This April 2005 Board Activity Report is intended to inform
MBC members of work performed by the Board of Directors on behalf of all
multiple-births individuals, families and supporters in Canada. It does not include the many activities
coordinated in the business office by our Business Services Manager or the many
worthwhile projects currently being handled by our valuable national
volunteers.
BOARD ACTIVITIES
·
Welcomed
one new chapter in Collingwood, Ontario and currently finalizing details on a
new chapter in Nipissing, Ontario (North Bay & surrounding area).
·
Continued
to build relationships with our affiliated chapters through telephone
discussion. Common concerns will be addressed at Back to Basics and in the next
Report from National.
·
Represented
MBC at the Dr. Karp presentation “How to have a Happy Baby” held in Toronto.
·
Accepted
resignation of Carrie Johnston, Director of Finance. Thank you, Carrie, for all your hard work and passion for
MBC! We look forward to your
continued involved in MBC projects and initiatives as the Past Chair. Jennifer Dawson has taken over the
Director of Finance responsibilities.
·
Created
template for 2005 Annual Report.
·
Began
a review of the MBC donation recognition policy.
·
Accepted
Lynda Haddon’s offer to head the Adult Multiples support network, and
transitioned its responsibility to her.
·
Represented
MBC at a fundraising trade show to learn of new fundraising opportunities for
chapters.
·
Researched
an affiliate program to increase revenue for MBC.
·
Began
the close of the 2004/2005 financial year and budgeting for 2005/2006 year.
·
Handled
all MBC correspondence.
NATIONAL MULTIPLE BIRTHS AWARENESS DAY
·
Worked
with the Advisory Board to create and circulate a questionnaire for
international specialists in the field of multiple births.
·
Enlisted
in the Advisory Board’s expertise to gather relevant information regarding the
theme for 2005 ~ A call to dialogue
regarding the current provisions for maternity, parental and compassionate care
leave under the federal Employment Insurance Program.
·
Finalized
letters for Anthony Rota, MP Nipissing-Timiskaming; Monique Smith, MPP
Nipissing; the Honourable Lucienne Robillard, Minister of Human Resources and
Skills Development; and the Honourable Ken Dryden, Minister of Social
Development Canada regarding NMBAD and the 2005 theme.

Worked
with the MP’s office for the Wasaga Beach riding to have the federal government
proclaim May 28th National Multiple Births Awareness Day. As well, the Board is currently working
on a statement with potential to be read in the House of Commons on the 27th
of May.
·
Finalized
sponsorship of the North Bay event with Royal LePage North Bay Real Estate.
·
Finalized
components of the events’ planner package and NMBAD media kit. Received orders from ten affiliate
chapters. Thank you Barrie Parents
of Twins and More, Chatham-Kent
Multiple Births Association, Collingwood Twins &
More Club, Kitchener- Waterloo POMBA, London Multiple Births Association,
Newmarket POMBA, Saskatoon Parents of Twins & Triplets Organization,
Vancouver Island Multiple Births Association, Vancouver Twins and More Club,
and Windsor/Essex County POMBA.

Connected with two non-affiliate groups, discussing current
and future opportunities to work together, including participation in NMBAD
events planned for May 28th. (As part of NMBAD, Toronto POMBA and
MBC affiliate chapter Newmarket POMBA will co-host the Twins Day celebration on
May 28th at a Blue Jays versus Minnesota Twins baseball game).
BACK TO BASICS VOLUNTEER RETREAT AND AGM
·
Attended
a weekend planning session with 35+ hours of face-to-face meeting.
·
Received
many donations for the welcome bags, silent auction and raffle tables.
·
Finalized
programming.
·
Finalized
catering.
·
Worked
with external trainers to prepare for the event.
·
Continued
registering delegates – extended early bird pricing to May 15, 2005.
·
Visited
Volunteer Canada to accept donations of items to be distributed to delegates
surrounding volunteerism.
·
Solicited
approximately 25 fundraising companies to receive information packages to be
distributed to MBC chapters during the Volunteer Retreat.
·
Solicited
approximately 25 companies for sponsorships, donations, discounts and/or
advertising for both the retreat and for on-going purposes.
·
Finalized
plans for the AGM.
