MBC Offers Caring Support Through an Extensive Peer and Professional Network

Every year in Canada, growing numbers of parents are told that they are expecting two, three, four or more babies. What follows this discovery is not only excitement and uncertainty, but sometimes a frightening leap into the world of high risk hospitals, financial worries and huge change. These emotions and concerns are not limited to the expectant parents, but extends out to other family members and friends as well.

The number of multiple birth families is increasing due to advances in the areas of infertility treatment and better care of pre-term babies. For any family, the introduction of multiple infants often presents overwhelming physical, emotional and financial strains that can reduce their ability to cope. As the children grow, multiples and their families face special challenges in school, in social situations, and they sometimes must cope with medical issues too.

Multiple Births Canada (MBC) has an extensive network of dedicated volunteers that come from local chapters, the health care industry, education, social service professions and other related organizations. Through MBC, expectant, new and experienced parents, grandparents and caregivers can find support, information/education, research and advocacy. All of these people play an important role in helping parents and multiple birth individuals themselves travel through their unique journey. MBC is the source for information on multiple births in Canada.

In order to put our vision and mission into action, it takes time, and it takes people. Multiple Births Canada is growing rapidly and is reaching into many new communities and areas of interest. However to provide quality support, information/education, research and advocacy we need more trained volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming an MBC Volunteer, and would like more information on the organization please take a moment to move through the orientation web site. It will only take you about 30 minutes to complete. You have two ways to navigate through the site. Either by following the link arrows on the bottom of each page which will allow you to visit pages in order, or, by site navigation which will let you visit pages in any order you wish. You’ll have a chance to meet some of the key volunteer members, learn about MBC’s history and get an overview of the unique support services we provide. Should the idea of becoming an MBC Volunteer appeal to you, simply click on the "Get Involved" button where you can complete an on-line application at anytime. Once submitted, an MBC representative will contact you and discuss what Volunteer role you can fill within the organization. Once decided, you can be fully trained on-line, at your own pace.

We hope you decide to become an MBC Volunteer. You’ll find that your work will be very rewarding as you help MBC support parents and their multiple birth families throughout Canada.
