Sharon Firth and her identical twin sister, Shirley, cross-country
skiers, originally from Inuik, Northwest Territories began skiing
31 years ago. Although they never won an Olympic medal,
they competed all over the world and dominated Canadian cross-country
skiing for more than a decade. In the 5-kilometre classical style
race in the 1972 Games in Sapporto, Japan, Sharon placed a remarkable
26th. Sharon retired in 1985, but has recently come out
of retirement to volunteer with the Yellowknife Ski Club and
to do some recreational cross-country skiing again. Source:
