Call To Dialogue Updates

Every year, on this one day, Canada’s entire multiple-birth community is invited to plan family events in cities and towns, coast to coast, to draw attention to an annual theme.  Multiple-birth individuals and their families come together because they share a common bond, one that allows them to speak personally and publicly about issues and challenges that are unique to our community.

2006 – Raising awareness of the unique risks of multiple-birth pregnancies and the post-natal issues faced by parents and multiples  (media release)

2005 – A Call to Dialogue regarding current provisions for maternity, parental and compassionate care leave under the federal Employment Insurance Program (media release)

National Multiple Births Awareness Day is important because it encourages a better understanding of the individuality and complexity of the multiple-birth relationship.  Further, it focuses on a single theme in order to educate those who are not familiar with the multiple-birth experience.  MBC believes that creating awareness and helping others to understand the journeys we travel, will lead to opportunities to advocate change on behalf of the entire multiple-birth community within Canada.

Annette and Cécile Dionne shared our vision for this national initiative, allowing MBC to use their birth date as the day we commemorate National Multiple Births Awareness Day across Canada each year. This was a truly gracious gift from two very private individuals who understand the need to create awareness of our yearly themes.  The MBC Board of Directors appreciates their generosity, and pledges to use this opportunity to advance the needs of Canada’s multiple birth community every year.
