Peer Health Workers:Two Peer Health workers are available to aid parents of multiples by providing information, support, and guidance both during pregnancy and after the babies' arrival. Peer Health Workers are trained by the Community Health Department of the Region of Waterloo. Peer Health Workers are an important resource for parents expecting multiples as they provide support and guidance through telephone contact and in-home visits during and after pregnancy. They also set up and conduct Expectant Parent Meetings, deliver and mail expectant parent packages, and have access to equipment for loan or rental (example: triple strollers and breastfeeding pillows). If you are expecting multiples, you are invited to contact our Peer Health Workers, Sara Rowe at 519-884-9287 or Stacey LeBlanc at 519-394-0129 to help you prepare for your new additions. Expectant Parents Meetings: Peer Health Workers set up and conduct Expectant Parent Meetings for families in the Kitchener-Waterloo area who are expecting multiples. There is no cost and you do not have to be a member of KW-POMBA to attend. The meeting consists of a presentation by Peer Health Workers (both moms of multiples); information on labour and postpartum support and a presentation from a Neo-Natal Intensive Care (NICU) nurse. These meetings are an opportunity for families expecting multiples to ask questions, receive support, learn more about POMBA and obtain information about multiple pregnancy and life with multiples. The next Expectants Parents Meeting will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. Pre-registration is required, either by sending an email or by calling our Peer Health Workers:Sara Rowe at 519-884-9287 or Stacey LeBlanc at 519-394-0129 Prenatal Health Fairs:You can also visit our Peer Health Workers at the Prenatal Health Fairs sponsored by the Region of Waterloo Public Health Department. The fairs are held two times a year - in March and November. They offer extensive exhibits and valuable seminars on a wide range of subjects related to pregnancy and childbirth.
